The Wangaratta BUG conducts regular bicycle rides on Wednesdays and Fridays each week and alternative Saturday and Sundays to various interesting local destinations that Melbourne cyclists only dream about.
The rides are organised and conducted around the region with most rides ideally suited to the beginning and average cyclist. Longer distance rides are provided for those members who have higher levels of fitness. These rides always have one thing in common – people enjoying cycling.
Rides are designed to suit a range of abilities with the emphasis of supporting and encouraging new members. This concept is in line with Bicycle Victoria's motto of "more people cycling more often".
The types of rides that members participate in include:
- Short and long daily rides on sealed roads
- Overnight touring rides to popular destinations
- Cycling the Melbourne Bike Path networks
- Bicycle Victoria rides
Other activities that BUGs are involved with are:
- Guest speaker nights
- First Aid for members
- Rides with V.I.P.s
- Bicycle maintenance nights
- Representation on regional tourism, rail trail and bike path planning committees
- Displays and exhibitions
- Distribution of the BUGs Bicycle Rides Booklet
- Rides planning nights
The BUG Rides Program is compiled each three months and is available at bike shops, the Visitor Information Centre and BUG meeting nights, as well as on this website.
